When the Fur Hits the Fan, Duck (Book Three of the Eternal Spring, Invisible Forest series)
Kellan Faolanni is having a no good, very bad day. Well, more like a no good, very bad week. Actually, it’s really more like a no good, very bad year.
As an immortal shapeshifter, Kellan is used to healing from physical wounds. But after sacrificing herself to a sadistic faery to protect her friend, nothing, it turns out, could prepare her for the emotional and physical torment that lingers once she's free.
She has a new secret eating her up inside. She's pregnant, and the father could be either her partner, Tony, or her recent tormentor. As she struggles with this reality, the Sankhain community is thrown into turmoil when a beloved youngling attempts suicide after an assault causing a chain reaction of events. Kellan quickly learns her promise of a safe place for the younglings has been turned into a lie by another orphan brought into the fold.
If that isn't bad enough, there's uncontrolled magic in their midst, and it's sharp as knives. As Kellan battles to maintain order and grapples with what it means to deliver justice, her own health deteriorates, and her world unravels. She must find a way to protect her family while facing her darkest fears.

About the Author:
Carrie Newberry studied creative writing at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She chose to walk away from academia without her degree, when she discovered they would no longer let her take writing workshops for credit. Now a Madison dog groomer by day, Carrie is also a member of the faculty at AllWriters’ Workplace and Workshop, an international creative writing studio based in Waukesha, Wisconsin. AllWriters’ allows her to take as many writing workshops as she wishes and even lets her teach some of them! She lives in Madison with two lovable but obnoxious cats, one who is a potted plant serial killer, and another who spends the wee hours of the morning chirping louder than the birds. [MORE]
Reviews:
When the Fur Hits the Fan, Duck, is an expertly crafted dive into the depths of the human spirit, couched in an engaging world of shapeshifters, fae, and spellcraft. Book three of the Eternal Spring, Invisible Forest Series delves ever more deeply into the resilience of the human spirit and the darkness, both existential and corporeal, against which we must all battle. If you enjoy gritty, hard-hitting magical realism that doesn’t shy away from the scars of humanity, you’ll love Carrie Newberry’s nuanced and well-written tale." – Summer H Hanford, Author of the Rise of the Summer God Series

"A sharp, contemporary, knowingly funny take on what it means to be a shifter in the woods of Wisconsin. A bold addition to the Eternal Spring, Invisible Forest series that runs towards the edge instead of shrinking away. Filled with a cast of characters that are always more than meets the eye, and in whom, we find a hard-won and satisfying installment in Kellan's story. Contains all of the classical elements of fantasy while remaining contemporary to its core." — Del Blackwater, Author of Dead Egyptians

"What an adventure! Shape-shifter Kellan reached out from page one, grabbed me, and wouldn’t let go. I don’t want to give the details away, but this page-turning story will have you catching your breath and wanting more. Kellan is a human-wolf shape-shifter---a spicy, salty-tongued, tough, but very principled and revered leader. Her magical community is crucially important because it guards a fountain of youth just outside Madison, Wisconsin. I fell in love with the whole crew---Kellan, Tony, and Galen---and wish I could somehow sneak into their magical domain. Give yourself a gift and read this heart-pounding tale." —Lynne Shaner, Author of Journey to Everland Bay

"Who knew an angsty shapeshifting wolf, a baby who might be the progeny of a fae madman, and out of control magic could combine as the ingredients of an ultimately warm and engaging family drama? But in When the Fur Hits the Fan, Duck, they do.” —Ross Hightower, Author of the Spirit Song Saga
